Defying the standards of the fitness industry

When oppressive systems decide who gets to be fit and what fitness looks like, there is power in connecting with our bodies, on our terms.

This space is for anyone marginalized seeking movement practice adapted to every body. We reclaim what fitness means to us: no shame or competition, just compassion and curiosity. We explore realities that we can relate to, not normative results that we should aspire to.

Our well being was never meant to be something to work on individually. We need to break the isolation promoted by the fitness industry, centered around the performance of white non-disabled cis bodies. This community is not about your coach, what I look like, and what you should look like. It is meant to explore what we can build as we lean on each other and learn together how to care for ourselves.

My approach to movement

What you can expect when working with me

Personalized

Your training is about your body, your experience and how training can best fit into your life. I tailor every program and exercise based on everyone’s specific situation so your workouts feel empowering and achievable at all times.

Functional

Fitness goes beyond the gym. By incorporating different elements of training in our workout, we can improve our connection with our body and improve our movements in our everyday life.

Collaborative

You are your own expert when it comes to your body, I am here to accompany you in our partnership. We can always adjust any variable at any time depending on your progress, how much you like or don’t like a movement, or your capacity and energy levels.

Fun

Taking care of ourselves doesn’t have to be a chore or feel like an obligation, it should be fun! I always make sure that our time together is engaging and that you leave energized.

Where do I come from

My name is Sam Thiounn (they/he), and after almost ten years working in the video game industry I decided to leave it behind to shift to community-centered work through personal training.

Sports have always been important for my mental health and my sense of community. Becoming a personal trainer for me is about taking space as a trans person of color who doesn’t dream of being fit and strong, and want to empower other marginalized people who are not represented in the fitness industry.
I enjoy playing soccer, rock climbing, weight lifting and doing obstacle races so I can win silly giant medals. I’m always down to learn new things!
